This George III sterling silver lidded tankard dates to the Georgian period and originates from London in 1777, made by John King. The vessel presents in a reflective silver colour with a polished finish, showing aged patina across its metallic surfaces. Visible details include a tapered cylindrical body divided by a raised horizontal mid-rib, a hinged domed lid with a small maker mark stamp near the rim, a pierced scroll-form thumbpiece, and a curved double-scroll handle terminating in a heart-shaped terminal above a stepped circular foot. Inside the lid and beneath the base are crisp sets of stamped hallmarks. Measuring 22 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, this item functions as a decorative display piece on a sideboard top or within a gentleman's library setting.

A George III silver lidded tankard is an 18th-century English drinking vessel forged from sterling silver, featuring a hinged domed cover, a sturdy scroll handle, and often a decorative mid-rib around the body.

Silversmiths raised the main body from a sheet of sterling silver using hand-hammering techniques, while casting auxiliary elements such as the thumbpiece, hinge, and handle before soldering them together.

Authentic Georgian silver bears a structured set of hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the maker mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town mark such as the London leopard head, and a specific date letter.

An antique silver tankard can be displayed as a decorative accent on a dining room sideboard, inside a glazed library bookcase, or arranged on a wooden bar cart alongside crystal glassware.

Clean antique sterling silver with a specialised silver polishing cloth or gentle silver foam to remove oxidisation without abrading historical hallmarks or surface detailing.
