This vintage 1960s brooch takes the form of a three-dimensional pheasant in flight positioned alongside a shotgun, belonging to the mid-century sporting jewellery style. The piece uses 9ct tri-coloured gold, presenting a white gold barrel, a yellow gold trigger, a rose gold stock, and a yellow gold body with a textured feather finish. The pheasant head displays red and green enamel, complemented by engraved detailing along the gun receiver. Hallmarks to the reverse include a maker mark, fineness marks, assay office mark, and date letter. The dimensions measure 1.96 cm high, 1.9 cm wide, and 7.75 cm deep. Designed as a collectable accessory for country sports enthusiasts, this brooch fastens at the reverse with a hinged pin and clasp. It fits into a wardrobe as a wearable lapel pin for jackets, coats, or heavy knit scarves during outdoor pursuits and countryside events. The sporting motifs reflect traditional field sports traditions while maintaining a detailed figurative form.

Sporting jewellery emerged prominently during the Victorian and Edwardian eras to celebrate field pursuits such as hunting, shooting, and fishing. Motifs featuring pheasants, shotguns, and game birds were rendered in precious metals and enamel, continuing in popularity throughout the twentieth century.

These brooches are commonly constructed from 9ct or 18ct yellow gold, frequently featuring white gold details or cold-painted enamel accents. Hallmarks stamped into the metal verify the assay office, metal purity, and date of manufacture.

Authentic British gold pieces carry official assay office hallmarks, including a purity mark, town mark, sponsors mark, and date letter. Solid gold construction with detailed chased engraving on animal features and miniature objects indicates original period craftsmanship.

A sporting brooch can be attached to the lapel of a tailored tweed jacket, secured to a wool coat, or pinned onto a silk scarf. It functions as a textured accent piece for structured tailoring and traditional outer garments.

Clean the gold surfaces gently using a soft lint-free cloth and avoid chemical cleaners or ultrasonic baths that could compromise delicate enamel work. Store the brooch individually in a fabric-lined box to protect against surface abrasions.
