Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French floor lamp originates from around 1900 in the Neoclassical Revival style. The piece comprises a silver plated metal construction with a silver colour finish, supporting a tapered drum fabric shade in a grey tone. The column stands on a circular gadrooned base and features a detailed turned design with a knopped stem leading up to the shade. The lighting fixture measures 141 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 28 cm deep. The design suits an English Country House aesthetic. In a contemporary home, this floor lamp serves as illumination in an empty corner of a living room, study, or bedroom. The vertical profile requires minimal floor space while adding height and decorative interest to a room scheme. The traditional profile blends with both period properties and eclectic modern interiors.

FAQs

A standard lamp, also known as a floor lamp, features a tall vertical stem mounted on a weighted base to elevate a light source above eye level. Historically popularised in the early 20th century, these fixtures provide ambient illumination and task lighting for reading areas.

Antique and vintage floor lamps were typically crafted using cast brass, bronze, turned nickel, or silvered metals, often incorporating cast-iron weights within the base for balance. Shades were commonly constructed from woven fabrics, silk, or parchment.

Authentic historical floor lamps display original turned or cast metal detailing, natural surface patination or wear to the metallic finish, and substantial base weighting. Inspection of internal wiring access, stem threading, and electrical fittings also helps establish age.

A silvered metal standard lamp provides a vertical accent when positioned in room corners or beside soft seating such as armchairs. The metallic column contrasts with darker timber furniture and complements neutral fabric upholstery.

Dust the metal column regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth to preserve delicate plating or lacquered coats. Avoid abrasive metal polishes and chemical solvents, and clean fabric shades using a soft brush attachment on a low-vacuum setting.
