This nineteenth-century culinary mould is an English piece from the Victorian period, originating from the workshop of Benham & Froud in London. Fashioned from warm copper with a polished finish, the object exhibits visible surface ageing and minor tonal variations across the metal. The castellation comprises an oval base surmounted by architectural turret-shaped spires featuring pointed pyramidal caps and vertical fluting. Impressed marks on the metal indicate the maker's orb and cross trademark. The piece measures 19 cm high, 13 cm wide, and 11.5 cm deep. Today, this decorative item serves as a functional kitchen accessory or display piece, sitting comfortably on a kitchen island, dresser, or open shelf within a rustic farmhouse interior. The sturdy metal construction allows it to be used for traditional culinary presentations, while its sculptural silhouette provides a distinct focal point when placed alongside other copper cookware or vintage kitchenalia in a domestic setting.

During the nineteenth century, elaborate jelly moulds became prominent in grand households as centrepieces for formal dining, showcasing complex culinary art made possible by refined gelatine.

They were typically hand-hammered or stamped from heavy gauge copper and internally lined with tin to prevent chemical reactions between acidic food and the metal.

Authentic pieces generally feature substantial weight, hand-brazed or dovetailed seams, rolled copper edges, and stamped maker marks or inventory numbers along the rim.

These pieces are frequently displayed on open kitchen shelving, mounted on brick walls, or arranged along sideboards to introduce warm metallic accents.

Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth and specialized metal polish to maintain the lustre, avoiding abrasive scrubbers that can scratch the metal or strip internal tin linings.
