Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This Regency mahogany writing table or desk dates from circa 1830 and has a warm brown rosewood banded top alongside brass inlay. The piece stands on turned legs with brass inlay decorating the front stiles, and features two frieze drawers fitted with small dark round wooden knob handles. The construction uses well-figured mahogany with mellow colour and visible age patina, complemented by crossbanded borders on the rectangular top. Measuring 74 cm high, 93 cm wide and 46 cm deep, the table provides ample surface work space and storage through its two capacious drawers without occupying excessive floor space. In a modern interior, this practical desk functions effectively as a study workspace in a home office or library, or as a decorative writing table in a living room or bedroom. The compact depth allows placement in narrower halls or behind seating areas, while the traditional design integrates smoothly with both period and contemporary furniture schemes. The solid and sturdy construction ensures reliable daily use for writing, laptop work, or desktop organization.

FAQs

Regency furniture, dating roughly from 1811 to 1830, is defined by classical proportions, dark timber veneers like mahogany or rosewood, and refined brass inlays or mounts influenced by Greco-Roman design.

These desks were predominantly crafted using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass stringing or marquetry, and turned timber legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut brass inlays set flush into timber channels, natural patination across metalwork, original drawer construction details, and age-consistent timber oxidation.

Position the piece as a focal point in a home office, library, or living room alcove, pairing it with modern lighting and understated decor to highlight the mahogany grain and brass detailing.

Dust surfaces using a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply clear beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the timber, ensuring chemical cleaners are avoided to protect the brass inlay.
