Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Rococo Revival single candle wall sconce dates from 1900 and originates from the Meissen manufactory, bearing the blue cross swords mark on its body. Fabricated from white porcelain with enamel painting and gold leaf gilding, the piece incorporates a curved porcelain arm and a leaf-form drip pan, all enriched by applied floral encrustations and green foliage arranged over a gilded scrolling backplate. The surface features a glossy white glaze highlighted by polychrome pink, yellow, and purple flower petals alongside metallic gold accents, showing one tiny loss on a petal upon the back plate. Measuring 14 cm high by 18 cm wide, this compact fixture fits narrow wall spaces in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, mounting directly to the wall to hold a single taper candle.

FAQs

A Meissen porcelain wall sconce is a decorative wall-mounted candlestick produced by the Meissen porcelain manufactory in Germany, prominent during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for its Rococo-inspired floral decorations.

These pieces are crafted from fine hard-paste porcelain, featuring hand-moulded applied botanical details, overglaze enamel painting, and leaf-gilded accents.

Authentic examples feature the iconic blue crossed swords mark underglaze, high-density hard-paste porcelain construction, and fine hand-painted details alongside sculpted backplates.

Mount porcelain sconces alongside framed oil portraits on a gallery wall or position them in a hallway or powder room to introduce relief texture and historical contrast.

Dust delicate applied porcelain flowers using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water or abrasive cleaning solutions that could damage historical gilding or delicate joins.
