This Victorian toasting fork serves as an example of 1897 teatime ware manufactured in Birmingham by Adie & Lovekin. The object consists of a polished steel shaft and tines paired with a hallmarked silver handle cast as a roaring panther. Visible details include blue glass eyes in the panther head, a pierced trefoil design near the tines, and turned mouldings along the stem. The piece measures 28 cm high, 3.7 cm wide, and 1.7 cm deep in total dimensions. Designed for a gentleman's library or hearthside setting, the fork fits into period interior displays near a fireplace. The clean silver and steel surfaces display clear hallmarks and crisp casting without dents, splits, or losses. Collectors of animal-themed silverware can use this item for display or domestic service during fireside gatherings.

During the Victorian era, silver toasting forks were utilised by the hearth to hold bread, crumpets, or cakes near an open fire for toasting.

These items were crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, incorporating casting techniques for detailed animal-head handles alongside hand-chased ornamentation.

Authentic British silver items feature official hallmarks indicating the makers mark, purity mark such as the lion passant for sterling silver, assay office mark, and date letter.

A decorative silver toasting fork can be displayed on a mantelpiece, hung beside a fireplace hearth, or mounted within a shadow box as wall art.

Clean silver items using a soft cloth and a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish, ensuring complete drying to prevent tarnish and oxidisation.
