These early 20th century French Neoclassical Revival wall sconces originate from Maison Baguès. The pair consists of rectangular gilt metal frames fitted with clear mirror plates. Etched bird motifs adorn the mirrored backplates, complemented by crystal floral cresting at the top, crystal flowers at the base of the scrolled candle arms, and glass candle cups. A few tiny nibbles exist on the edge of the right-hand sconce, and minor asymmetrical variations include three leaves at the top of the left sconce and four leaves at the top of the right sconce. Measuring 30 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 8 cm deep, these wall sconces suit placement on narrow wall spaces in a hallway, bedroom, or living room. They provide functional lighting while adding decorative elegance to interiors seeking a French chateau design vibe.

French mid-century decorative wall sconces, particularly those produced by design houses such as Maison Bagues, are characteristically constructed with gilded metal frames, hand-cut glass or rock crystal ornamentation, and often incorporate mirrored backplates with botanical or avian engravings.

These fixtures typically utilise gilt bronze or iron frame structures combined with cut crystal or glass leaves, beaded glass flowers, and silvered mirror glass backing plates etched with traditional motifs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished metalwork, individual wire wrapping for glass beads and crystal petals, silver-nitrate degradation or minor oxidisation on mirror backing, and heavy cast metal construction rather than lightweight modern alloys.

Position mirrored sconces in pairs to flank a central focal point, such as above a sideboard, on either side of an overmantel mirror, or within a narrow hallway to reflect light and create symmetrical balance.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush. For glass and mirror elements, use a mild glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the fixture, avoiding moisture contact with the gilt metal surfaces and silvered backing.
