This early George V sterling silver tot cup or measure takes the form of a miniature trophy or loving cup. Dating from 1911 and produced by Wakely & Wheeler in London, the piece exhibits a bright silver finish with a tapering body, a flared lip, applied twin scroll handles with curved terminals, and a raised reeded base rim. Stamped hallmarks appear clearly on the exterior surface of the cup, alongside light surface marks indicative of period use. The item measures 4 cm high, 6.5 cm wide, and 4 cm deep. Today, collectors appreciate such novelty silver barware for display in a gentleman's library or on a sideboard top. It functions practically as a spirit measure in modern home entertaining settings. The sturdy sterling silver construction provides durability while maintaining its traditional aesthetic appeal on a tabletop surface.

Tot cups and spirit measures crafted in sterling silver became popular during the late Victorian and George V eras as novelty items for domestic bars and dining rooms. Often designed to mimic miniature trophy cups, thimbles, or tankards, these vessels were designed to measure single portions of spirits.

These items were predominantly cast or hand-spun from sterling silver containing 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. Handles were soldered onto the body, and the exterior surface was finished with hand-stamped hallmarks indicating the assay office and purity.

Authentic British silver from the George V period features a full set of official hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling silver, an assay office symbol, a specific date letter, and a makers mark. The style of construction and weight of the silver also distinguish original period items from later reproductions.

A small silver tot cup can be displayed on a sideboard tray alongside crystal decanters, placed on a library bookshelf, or integrated into a curated bar cart arrangement. Its compact proportions make it suitable for display in glass cabinets or alongside other table accessories.

Clean sterling silver using a soft microfibre cloth and a specialist non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish and oxidisation. Store silver items in low-humidity environments away from direct sulfur sources to minimise recurring tarnish.
