Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These Florentine Baroque chandeliers come from the early 20th century in a pair of twelve-light double-tiered fixtures. Each piece uses carved wood, gold leaf, polychrome paint, and metal in a gold and terracotta colour scheme. The design incorporates acanthus leaf scrolling arms, carved pierced wooden bobeche drip pans, bulbous candle sconces, and an elaborate baluster central column with leaf decorative embellishments, complete with the original chain and ceiling rose, original colouration, and patination. Each chandelier measures 81 cm high, 81 cm wide, and 81 cm deep, excluding the chain and rose. Such hanging lights suit grand principal rooms, dining spaces, or entrance halls in a home today, providing substantial illumination and decorative presence overhead. The double-tiered configuration and numerous candle-style bulb holders create an impactful visual statement across large interiors.

FAQs

Florentine lighting typically features carved wood or wrought iron decorated with hand-painted polychrome finishes, gold leaf gilding, and dynamic scrollwork inspired by Italian Renaissance and Baroque designs.

These fixtures are predominantly crafted from hand-carved wood or wrought iron, finished with gesso, gold leaf, and tempera or oil pigments to create a multi-coloured, aged surface.

Authentic examples display hand-carved details with subtle variations, multi-layered painted and gilded finishes showing natural craquelure, and substantial wooden or iron central balusters.

Installing a pair above a large dining table or along a hall ceiling adds architectural interest, texture, and historical depth to both traditional and eclectic contemporary schemes.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry feather duster or dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water, chemical cleaners, or liquid polishes that can compromise delicate gesso and leaf gilding.
