Three Adjustable Mirrors

The Art Deco walnut vanity table boasts three adjustable mirrors, including a large central mirror. To change its angle, simply extend the hinged metal stay behind the mirror, which connects to the pedestal base. Two narrow curved hinged mirrors flank the large mirror. Again, you can adjust the angle of these mirrors too. In addition, a pair of vertical wooden bars screws to the back of the dressing table and supports the mirrors. For safe transport, or for easier access into the house and up the stairs, you can also remove the mirrors and bars.

Pedestals, Drawers & Bakelite Handles

Meanwhile, the Art Deco pedestal base has a low central well. Mirror-matched figured walnut decorates its top. Below, a large drawer is ideal for make-up. Then, two rectangular pedestals with bowed fronts flank the well. Each one houses three deep drawers.

The drawer fronts also keep their top-quality ruby red Bakelite handles. These are the original Art Deco handles. Likewise, the drawers have solid beech linings. Also, the dressing table sits on a recessed plinth base. It still has its original backboards.

Provenance

This dressing table was purchased from a country house in Chester, Cheshire.

Hand French-Polished Finish

First, our restorers cleaned the Art Deco dressing table. Then, they hand French-polished it to a professional standard. As a result, the finish, colour and patination are all excellent.

Style & Versatility

The Art Deco dressing table would look equally at home in a traditional or a contemporary setting. Also, it takes up very little space. In short, this piece boasts classic Art Deco styling. For example, you can see it in the curved moulded frame and corners. Similarly, the tops, handles and plinth all display clean lines.

This antique dressing table would look superb in any bedroom. Certainly, it would grace any home. Because it is extremely functional, it also makes a great investment. So, don't miss your chance to own this lovely piece of furniture.

This Art Deco dressing table dates from 1930 and follows classic English style conventions. Constructed from figured walnut veneer with a hand French-polished warm brown finish, the vanity features a twin pedestal base, six deep drawer units with solid beech linings, a low central well containing a single curved drawer, and a recessed block plinth. Original ruby red Bakelite handles accent the drawer fronts. Three adjustable upright mirrors with hinged metal stays and vertical wooden support bars mount to the rear. The structure maintains a solid joint construction with original backboards and patination. Practical dimensions measure 75 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 28.5 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a traditional or contemporary bedroom, this piece serves as a functional vanity surface and storage unit for daily personal grooming routines. The compact footprint fits efficiently into smaller dressing areas while providing ample compartmentalised drawer space for cosmetics and accessories. Dismantling options allow for straightforward transport and access into upper-floor rooms.

Art Deco dressing tables from the 1930s typically display geometric forms, clean lines, and symmetrical pedestal structures. Craftsmen frequently used highly figured wood veneers, such as walnut or mahogany, paired with bold Bakelite or chrome hardware and integrated multi-panel mirrors.

1930s dressing tables were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods overlaid with decorative timber veneers like figured walnut, birds-eye maple, or oak. Accents often included moulded Bakelite or glass handles, alongside bevelled plate glass mirrors.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-cut or early machine dovetail joints inside drawers, original period mirror glass with light foxing, and book-matched timber veneers. The presence of period-correct phenolic resin or Bakelite hardware also indicates genuine 1930s manufacture.

Position the piece against a neutral or rich jewel-toned wall to highlight the timber grain. Pair it with a contemporary upholstered stool and minimalist lighting to balance the geometric vintage silhouette.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically to nourish the veneer. Protect the wood surface from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and hot or wet items to prevent moisture marks and bleaching.
