This cased set of six mid-century British coffee spoons originates from Birmingham and dates to 1965. Each sterling silver spoon features oval bowls with engine-turned guilloche enamel decoration on the reverse in vibrant shades of blue, pink, yellow, and green, paired with plain silver inner bowls, fully hallmarked stems, and black bean knops at the terminals. The group sits securely inside a fitted blue Morocco leather presentation case equipped with a cream satin lid lining and a black velvet base with holders. Measuring 9.5 cm high, 1 cm wide, and 1 cm deep, the set is sized for display on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space. A collector or host uses the spoons during after-dinner coffee service, presenting them to guests directly from their fitted storage box.

Coffee bean knop spoons are small demitasse spoons featuring a dark bean-shaped terminal at the end of the stem. Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this design was created specifically for serving espresso or after-dinner coffee.

Guilloche enamel involves engraving precise, repetitive geometric patterns onto sterling silver using a rose engine lathe. A layer of translucent vitreous enamel is then applied and fired, allowing the underlying textured pattern to reflect light through the colour.

Authentic English pieces feature stamped silver hallmarks, including a makers mark, town mark (such as the Birmingham anchor), lion passant for sterling quality, and a date letter. The enamel work should present a smooth glass-like finish with clear engine-turned engraving beneath.

A cased set of enamel spoons can be displayed open on a dining sideboard, inside a glazed cabinet, or alongside coffee paraphernalia on a tray. The contrasting coloured bowls provide a controlled accent when framed within the fitted presentation box.

Clean the silver elements using a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding contact with the enamel. Enamel sections should only be wiped gently with a soft dry cloth, as harsh liquids and temperature fluctuations can crack the vitreous surface.
