This George V cologne bottle originates from the 1910 period and is constructed from sterling silver and moulded glass in yellow and silver. The cylindrical body exhibits a wrythen moulded spiral swirl pattern formed by diagonal yellow lines against clear glass. A hallmarked collar supports a rounded pull-off silver lid featuring embossed chased scrollwork decoration, complemented by a spherical ball stopper. Hallmarks include a lion passant, a London assay mark, and the date letter for 1914. Measuring 12 cm high, 5.5 cm wide, and 5.5 cm deep, this practical piece makes an attractive addition to a bedside table in an English Country House interior setting.

During the George V period in the early 20th century, silversmiths frequently collaborated with glassmakers to create decorative vanity items. These cologne and scent bottles combined hallmarked sterling silver collars and caps with intricate hand-blown or moulded glass vessels for bedroom dressing tables.

These items typically feature a lead or soda glass body, often clear, cut, or coloured, capped with a sterling silver collar and stopper. The silver components were formed through casting or silver spinning and decorated using chasing or engraving techniques.

Authentic British pieces bear official assay office hallmarks stamped into the silver, including the lion passant for sterling quality, a town mark such as the leopards head for London, an alphabetical date letter, and a registered makers mark.

Small glass and silver bottles are commonly styled on vanity trays, bathroom countertops, or bedroom bedside tables. Grouping bottles of varying heights creates a layered vignette that catches natural light.

The silver collar and stopper should be gently wiped with a soft silver polishing cloth, taking care not to rub abrasive polishes into delicate glass surfaces. The glass interior can be rinsed with lukewarm water, avoiding harsh chemical detergents or sudden temperature changes.
