This Arts and Crafts folding campaign stool dates from 1910 and follows a gentleman's library design with functional portability. Constructed from beech and warm tan leather, the piece displays a rich patina, visible stitching along the triangular seat edges, and turned wooden feet terminating in rounded knobs. The three centrally hinged wooden legs form a stable tripod structure when opened, secured at the top via brass grommets inset with screws. Practical details include an original steel hanging clip and a small screw top on the lower half of one leg for fastening. Measuring 40.5 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 28 cm deep when open, the stool offers compact occasional seating suitable for domestic interior spaces. Placed beside a fireplace hearth or within a study, it provides a versatile portable seat that folds flat for transport. The combination of utilitarian hardware and traditional carpentry makes this campaign item an authentic example of early twentieth-century design.

A campaign stool is a portable seat designed to fold efficiently for transport, originally constructed for military, hunting, or field use and later integrated into domestic interiors during the Arts and Crafts movement.

These stools feature turned hardwood legs, typically made from oak, ash, or beech, paired with a heavy-gauge stitched leather sling seat attached with metal fittings or rivets.

Authentic examples exhibit hand-stitched thick leather hide showing natural patination, along with original metal pivot points and hand-turned timber legs showing minor age-related wear.

Place a vintage campaign stool as an accent piece alongside an armchair, beside a fireplace hearth, or within an entryway to add historical character and natural texture.

Treat the leather periodically with a specialized leather balm to maintain flexibility, keep the frame away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, and apply clear beeswax to the wooden legs.
