Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These mid-century German nutcrackers date from around 1950 and are made from 800 silver and steel. The object has a silver colour with a polished finish, featuring smooth, flared handles and serrated metal jaws linked by a central hinged joint, along with decorative moulded collars above the grips. The handles show gentle curvature tapering towards rounded ends. German silver hallmarks appear on the metal. Measuring 19 cm in length, they are sized for tabletop utility. In a modern home, this practical piece suits placement on a dining table, sideboard, or bar top for cracking nuts during gatherings. The functional design integrates smoothly into contemporary or traditional dining arrangements, offering a tactile service accessory for everyday hosting or seasonal entertaining.

FAQs

German 800 silver denotes a metal purity of 800 parts per 1000 silver, alloyed for increased durability. Mid-20th century dining items typically feature streamlined profiles, minimal surface decoration, and functional mechanical construction.

These implements feature hollow or filled silver handles fitted to steel or metal jaws designed to withstand pressure without distorting the silver.

Authentic pieces are stamped with the German silver hallmark, featuring a crescent moon, a crown (Halbmond und Krone), a numeric purity stamp such as 800, and occasionally a silversmith makers mark.

Vintage silver serving tools can be styled alongside contemporary ceramics and neutral table linens on a dining table or sideboard during entertaining.

Clean silver handles using a soft cloth and specialized silver polish, while keeping the steel jaw mechanism clean and completely dry to avoid oxidisation near the hinge.
