This antique Art Deco ring is a dress ring originating from circa 1935. The piece is composed of 12 carat yellow gold and platinum, displaying a colour combination of purple and gold alongside white diamonds. A central oval faceted cut purple amethyst rests in a yellow gold bezel setting, surrounded by a border of pavé set eight cut diamonds and additional collet set diamonds at the cardinal points. The setting incorporates pierced decorated, ornamented scrolling work with millegrain edging and elevated shoulders that blend into a plain ring shank. The setting measures 2.8 cm in length by 2.25 cm in width, with a height of 8.3 mm and a total weight of 7.93 grams. The ring is worn on the hand as a cocktail ring or dress ring for significant celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays, and personal milestones.

Art Deco jewellery from the 1930s is defined by bold geometric silhouettes, contrasting gemstone colours, and intricate metalwork such as millegrain borders. Designers during this era frequently paired vivid coloured gemstones, like amethyst or emerald, with surrounding diamond halos set in platinum or yellow gold.

Art Deco rings typically combine precious metals such as platinum, white gold, and yellow gold with high-clarity gemstones. Settings often feature hand-cut accent diamonds surrounding a large central gemstone, secured with bezel or rub-over mountings.

Authentic 1930s pieces often exhibit hand-carved openwork under-galleries, fine millegrain graining along the metal edges, and period hallmarks. Additionally, diamonds from this era generally feature older cutting styles, such as single cuts or old European cuts, rather than modern brilliant cuts.

An antique cocktail ring serves as a focal piece when paired with minimalist tailored attire, evening wear, or monochrome outfits. Combining historical statement rings with modern, unadorned bands creates a balanced, contemporary look.

Amethyst and diamond rings should be cleaned using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or ultrasonic cleaners. Store the ring in a fabric-lined box separately from other jewellery to prevent scratches on the quartz surface of the amethyst.
