This late Victorian stamp case takes a traditional envelope form and belongs to the gentleman's library style. Produced in 1900 by Stokes & Ireland Ltd in Chester, the piece consists of solid sterling silver with a bright silver finish. The surface displays minor dents and scratches from age, a folded flap detail on the front, stamped hallmarks near the bottom point, and a small round side suspension loop attached to the right edge. Measuring 2.5 cm high, 2 cm wide, and 0.2 cm deep, it has a compact profile suited for a desk accessory collection. Collectors of late nineteenth-century silver novelties value such items for display on a desk or within a cabinet, where the miniature envelope shape and authentic Chester hallmarks can be easily appreciated alongside other small desktop curiosities of the period.

Popularised during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras following the introduction of standardized postage stamps, a silver stamp case is a small portable container designed to protect paper postage stamps from damage inside a pocket or attached to a watch chain.

Most antique stamp cases were crafted from sterling silver, often featuring stamped British assay hallmarks, engine-turned patterns, or envelope-shaped silver sheet construction.

Authentic British examples carry official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant symbol for sterling silver, a town mark, a date letter, and a registered makers mark stamped into the metal body.

These small cases are often repurposed as statement pendants on silver necklaces, integrated into modern charm bracelets, or displayed in small glass curio cabinets alongside historical desk novelties.

Gently wipe the silver surface with a specialized silver polishing cloth to remove surface tarnish, avoiding abrasive polishes or prolonged submersion in liquids that could damage internal springs or hinges.
