Description

A fantastic solid silver brooch depicting a crowned lion in Medieval English style. This motif was a common symbol on coins and seals and state heraldry, as well as displaying loyalty to the monarch. Such badges were also popular in the Middle Ages to show the wearer had made a pilgrimage to a holy place and to act as a protective amulet. We just like its jaunty little wave.

SIZE: Approximately 3 x 3.5cm.

WEIGHT: 7.2g.

MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Hallmarked for sterling silver, Chester 1946, and stamped with the sponsor's mark S&Co, believed to be Shipton & Co.

CONDITION: In excellent vintage condition, a little tarnish to the back.

ERA: 1946.
