Magohany Fall Front Secretaire Bookcase C1820.

Description

Fine antique wooden secretaire/ desk / bookcase crafted from rich mahogany c. 1820

Of particular note are the spiral rope-twist columns to the lower section, a key feature of classical revival and Regency furniture for the period. The whole being veneered in flame mahogany with lion-head ring pulls.

The upper section features a double-door glass cabinet (bookcase) housing three interior wooden shelves. Above this the top border is detailed with a decorative diagonal spiraled/rope-carved moulding.

The middle section has a fold-down slant-top or fall-front writing surface which is supported by interior hinges. Opening the desk reveals a fitted desk organizer containing multiple small drawers, vertical cubbies/pigeonholes, and central storage compartments with small pull knobs.

The lower is is formed from a chest of three wide drawers fitted with round metallic ring handles (or lion-head pulls) and brass keyhole escutcheons. The outer vertical edges of the lower section are further embellished with spiralled rope-twist carved columns running down each side. It sits upon elegant turned feet.

This pratical and stylish piece of antique furniture has many uses in the home, but primarily it has everything needed to be the perfect contained work from home/ storage solution.
