Sandbanks Antiques has dated this Diamond Equestrian Racing Brooch to the 1940s.
The dynamic equine form is rendered in platinum-topped 18ct gold and is meticulously pavé-set with approximately 1.20 carats of glittering old single and brilliant-cut diamonds, perfectly articulating the muscular stride and kinetic energy of the chase.
Riding atop is a brilliantly hand-painted polychrome enamel jockey, detailed with a white jacket, black sleeve and cap detailing, dark riding boots, and finely modeled stirrups framing his feet. The white saddle cloth bears the distinct race-day number 7. The eye of the horse gleams with a vivid, bezel-set cabochon ruby, lending a striking flash of life to the composition.
Condition: Certified by official French assay marks, with the reverse stamped "P.T." for platinum and "18CT", and the pin similarly stamped "18CT". The polychrome enamel is in predominantly good condition, showing light surface wear throughout, bringing the overall condition to very good with a gross weight of approximately 12.0g.
Presentation & Provenance: Measuring 6.3 cm in length, the piece is housed in its original oxblood red leather presentation case, elegantly detailed on the lid with gilt-tooled neo-classical border tooling and corner flourishes.
