An antique H and R Daniel bread & butter or cake plate in the Shrewsbury shape, pattern 4232, handpainted with sprays of blue roses and other flowers. Dates to c.1825 - other pieces from the same service are also available in my shop at the time of listing.

FAQs

Founded by Henry and Richard Daniel in Staffordshire around 1822, H & R Daniel produced high-grade porcelain renowned for its complex shell-moulded shapes and elaborate hand-painted decoration until operations ceased in 1846.

English factories during the Regency era primarily utilized bone china, composed of calcined bone ash, china stone, and kaolin, decorated with overglaze enamel paints and burnished gold leaf.

Authentic pieces often feature distinctive relief-moulded borders, hand-applied gilding showing light age wear, fine translucency, and specific factory mould shapes, though many specimens from this era remained unmarked by the manufacturer.

These decorative ceramic pieces can be displayed on brass plate stands atop a sideboard, arranged in symmetrical wall displays, or housed within traditional glass-fronted china cabinets.

Dust gently with a soft dry brush, and if cleaning is necessary, wash by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding hot water, abrasive sponges, chemical cleaners, or mechanical dishwashers.
