Norwegian enamel jewellery from this era is recognised for its use of guilloche patterns, where precise geometric designs are engraved into silver beneath translucent vitreous enamel. Makers frequently incorporated nature-inspired motifs, such as floral clusters and leaves, finished with gilt detailing.

These brooches were primarily constructed from sterling silver or high-purity silver alloys, often plated with a thin layer of gold to create silver-gilt or vermeil. Vitreous glass enamel was fused to the metal surface at high temperatures to produce lasting colour.

Authentic David Andersen items feature distinct makers marks on the reverse, such as D-A, the hammer and tongs symbol, or STERLING NORWAY 925S. The craftsmanship displays clean enamel borders with no bleeding and uniform engine-turned engraving beneath the enamel layer.

Enamel brooches can be worn on the lapels of tailored blazers, fastened to silk scarves, or pinned onto wool coats to add a splash of colour. They are also frequently styled on structured handbags or pinned into collared shirts at the top button.

Enamel jewellery should be wiped gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove oils and dust. Liquid jewellery cleaners, ultrasonic baths, and harsh polishing compounds should be avoided as they can strip gold gilding or damage the delicate glass enamel.
