Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this Russian Silver Enamel Egg to the 1900s.
The EGG: is of two parts and opens to reveal the vacant silver-gilt interior which is hallmarked to both top and base. The outside is superbly decorated: the cast silver very finely engraved and with exquisite enamel work in pastel colours of green, blue and pink. It is further set with a total of ten cabochon precious stones ~ possibly rubies ?~ surmounted by a larger stone to the top. Hallmarked to the inside of the top and base, and further hallmarked to the edges.

The STAND: this is beautifully crafted, standing on three ‘legs’ which are cast as pairs of cloven-hoofed legs, with three “finials” of double-headed eagles. Hallmarked simply with “84” to the silver ring that connects the tripod legs. A rare and beautiful object, the likes of which we have never previously stocked! The egg: 6ins (15cms high); Total height, including the stand: 8.5ins (21.6cms). Highly recommended.
