This English sterling silver cigarette dispenser box dates from the 1930s Art Deco period. The piece presents a cylindrical body in a gleaming silver and dark grey palette, detailed with engine turned patterned texturing interrupted by a central plain polished band, a matching domed lid, a circular pedestal foot, and a flat-topped knob finial. The solid silver structure incorporates contrasting dark details and is hallmarked on the body. It stands 12 cm tall by 9 cm across the base and weighs 240 grams including all materials. Today, this functional container finds a home on a living room coffee table, a study desk or a dressing table, serving as a decorative desktop accessory or container for small items. The compact design allows it to sit neatly on surfaces while offering easy access to its interior through the lift-off lid.

Popularised in the 1920s and 1930s, an Art Deco silver cigarette dispenser is a tabletop container designed to hold and elevate cigarettes using an internal mechanical dispenser or pull-top finial, reflecting the sleek geometric aesthetics of the period.

These items were predominantly crafted from solid sterling silver or silver plate, frequently featuring engine-turned geometric engraving, weighted bases for stability, and occasionally wood linings or interior gilding.

Authentic British pieces bear official hallmarks stamped into the metal, including a makers mark, a town mark, a lion passant indicating sterling purity, and a date letter corresponding to the exact year of manufacture.

This metallic piece can be positioned on an office desk, bookshelf, or sideboard to store small stationery items or serve strictly as a refined vintage accent piece.

Regular polishing with a soft microfibre cloth and silver polish removes surface tarnish while preserving detailed engine-turned patterns; store the piece in a dry environment to minimise oxidisation.
