Ritas Bazaar has dated this Cobalt Porcelain Portrait Plate to the 19th Century.
The portrait is painted with fine detail and signed Poitevin at the lower right. Poitevin led the Paris porcelain decorating atelier responsible for the work. Madame Élisabeth is remembered for remaining with the royal family during the French Revolution; she was executed in Paris in 1794.
The wide bleu de roi border is enriched with raised burnished gilding, including scrolling foliage, floral swags, roses, beading and scalloped foliate ornament. Gilt lines frame the painted centre. The reverse is inscribed in purple "Mme Elisabeth". It also bears a blue underglaze pseudo-Sèvres interlaced "L" mark with the arbitrary date letter "G", and an impressed registry numeral in the porcelain body.
Dimensions: Diameter 24.3 cm; height 2.5 cm; weight 392 g.
Condition: Excellent condition. Examined under UV light, the painted front has no visible scratches and appears to have seen little or no use. The hand-painted portrait is beautifully preserved. The gilt decoration is in excellent condition, with only minimal, barely perceptible traces of use to the gilding on the rim.
