Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Parcel gilt items feature selective gilding on silver or silver-plated surfaces, highlighting specific architectural details and textures. During the nineteenth century, manufacturers applied this technique to lighting to create visual contrast under lighting.

These pieces typically feature an electroplated silver layer over a brass or nickel base metal, with gold leaf or gilt wash applied selectively to decorative sections. The interior structural rod and weighted base provide stability to support lighting fitments.

Authentic examples often carry maker marks stamped near the rim or underside of the base, along with indications of silver plating such as EPNS or EP. Natural signs of age include gentle rubbing of the silver plate to reveal underlying metal and subtle tarnish along recessed details.

Position the lamp base on a timber desk, side table, or sideboard to create a focal point. Pair it with a tailored silk or linen shade in a neutral hue to complement the metallic finishes.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth to prevent dirt build-up. Avoid harsh chemical polishes on gilded areas, using only non-abrasive silver cloths on the un-gilded silver plating to preserve the thin metallic layers.
