Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Arts and Crafts metalwork emphasised hand craftsmanship, functional honesty, and visible joinery in reaction to mass industrial production around the turn of the 20th century. Fireplace accessories from this era often feature simple geometric accents, hammered finishes, and stylized organic forms.

Traditional fire dogs were hand-forged from wrought iron using blacksmithing methods such as heating, hammering, bending, and riveting. Wrought iron was favoured for its malleability when heated and its durability when exposed to high hearth temperatures.

Authentic period pieces display subtle surface irregularities from hand-hammering rather than uniform machine casting. Key indicators include hand-riveted joints, hand-curled scrollwork, and natural surface patination or mild oxidisation accumulated over decades.

Place iron hearth accessories inside an open fireplace or minimalist chimney breast to introduce dark structural contrast and historic texture. In non-working fireplaces, styling them alongside stacked timber logs creates an architectural focal point.

Keep ironwork clean by removing ash and dust using a dry, soft-bristled brush. To protect the metal from moisture and rust, periodically apply a light coat of clear microcrystalline wax or beeswax and buff gently with a lint-free cloth.
