Description

A lovely example of a Victorian aesthetic era (1885-1901) brooch in silver with applied rose gold decoration - this one's unusual because of its large saddle shape and it has a locket back (unglazed) to keep safe a tiny picture.

SIZE: 4.2 x 3.5cm.

WEIGHT: 9.4g.

MATERIALS: Silver, gold.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: Hallmarked for sterling silver, Birmingham. The date letter is unclear but possibly r for 1891. Also stamped with the sponsor's mark M&J.

CONDITION: The brooch is in good sturdy antique condition. There is some solder from an old repair under the clasp hinge and one of the tiny balls along the edge is missing.

ERA: Victorian c.1880-90s.
