Antique Georgian Style Mahogany Small Breakfront Sideboard

1900 - 1920
Description

A compact and beautifully made antique Georgian style mahogany small breakfront sideboard. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1910 period.

It is a very useful size and has a very smart design. The quality is superb, with gorgeous mahogany grain patterns and lots of storage space. There is a cross banded top, original brass handles and it sits on beautifully shaped bracket feet. There are seven drawers in total, with panelled doors on either side.

We have recently had this re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age, with some minor historical wear and patina here and there.

This delightful small sideboard takes up no more room than a small console table, yet it has plenty of storage, so it’s a great space saver.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian furniture is characterised by symmetrical proportions, elegant cabinetwork, and the extensive use of mahogany. Styles evolved throughout the 18th century, incorporating motifs from Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton designs.

Primary construction relies on solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers laid over oak or pine carcasses. Secondary details frequently include cast brass ring or swan-neck handles and dovetail drawer joinery.

Authentic period pieces show hand-sawn wood marks on the rear, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and natural oxidisation on underside timber. Hardware often displays subtle irregularity from hand-casting.

Pairing a dark timber sideboard with modern artwork, neutral wall shades, or contemporary ceramics creates visual balance. The structured profile allows it to serve effectively in dining rooms, wide hallways, or living spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep timber away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood shrinkage or veneer lifting.
