Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A vesta case, also known in North America as a match safe, is a small portable container designed to carry friction matches securely. Popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, these cases prevented accidental ignition in pockets and were commonly crafted from sterling silver or nickel.

High-grade sterling silver, silver plate, gold, and brass were the primary metals used in production. Many examples feature decorative bright-cut engraving, engine turning, or repousse work, alongside a serrated striking surface cast directly into the base.

Authentic British silver vesta cases bear official hallmark stamps indicating the purity mark, assay office logo, date letter, and makers mark. Victorian examples typically carry the duty mark depicting Queen Victorias profile alongside standard British silver hallmarks.

Small antique silver pocket items make excellent display accents on an office desk, curated shelf, or decorative tray. They can be integrated into vignette displays alongside antique pocket watches, desk requisites, or magnifying glasses to add textural interest.

Clean silver gently using a soft microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive silver polishing paste to remove oxidisation without wearing down delicate hand engraving. Store the item in a low-humidity environment inside a tarnish-resistant cloth bag when not on display.
