Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Art Nouveau photo frame from 1905 is made of sterling silver with a dark brown wooden backstand. The piece measures 19 cms tall by 16 cms wide with a circular aperture measuring 8.5 cms across, and bears hallmarks for Birmingham with the maker's mark for Walker & Hall. The front silver plate displays repoussé relief decoration depicting a pastoral figurative scene of a seated girl beneath a sprawling tree tending a goat. The silver surface presents a reflective metallic finish, contrasting with the dark wooden support visible at the angled edge. The frame stands independently on a flat surface supported by its original wooden backstand. In a contemporary home, this decorative piece suits display on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or desk, holding a small personal photograph within its circular opening. Its characteristic organic motifs and flowing lines embody the aesthetic of the early twentieth-century Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. The silver requires occasional gentle polishing to maintain its shine, while the sturdy backstand ensures stable placement on household display surfaces.

FAQs

Art Nouveau silver frames typically feature organic, sinuous forms, whiplash curves, and naturalistic motifs such as figures, flora, and fauna inspired by late 19th-century design movements.

These frames were generally constructed using thin sheets of sterling silver stamped or embossed with decorative relief designs, mounted onto a solid wooden backing with a built-in easel support.

Authentic British silver items feature official assay hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling purity, an assay office mark, a makers mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to the production year.

A silver picture frame provides reflective detail when placed on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or desk, integrating easily alongside modern artwork or classic wooden surfaces.

Clean the silver surface gently using a soft cotton cloth and a specialized silver polish, taking care to prevent liquid from contacting the wooden backing or easel mechanism.
