Edwardian Mother of Pearl Cufflinks 1906 Solomon Blanckensee Son 9ct Gold Birmingham Hallmarked

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique Mother of Pearl & 9ct Gold Button Cufflinks – Birmingham 1906

A handsome and highly collectable pair of antique Edwardian cufflinks, beautifully crafted in solid 9ct gold and fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1906.

Designed in the fashionable button style popular during the Edwardian period, each circular panel is centred with luminous mother of pearl displaying wonderful iridescence and subtle colour play. The mother of pearl is framed by an attractive dark green enamel border, highlighted with finely engraved gold detailing and delicate applied ropework crosses to the centre.

These elegant double-sided cufflinks are linked by traditional rose gold chain connections, ensuring both comfort and practicality when worn. The combination of glowing mother of pearl, rich green enamel and warm gold creates a refined and distinctive appearance that remains as stylish today as it was over a century ago.

Adding further desirability, each cufflink bears the maker's mark of S.B & S. (Solomon Blanckensee & Son), one of Birmingham's respected jewellery manufacturers of the late Victorian and Edwardian era.

An exceptional pair of antique cufflinks, ideal for the discerning gentleman, collector of fine antique accessories, or as a memorable gift.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Edwardian era, spanning roughly 1901 to 1910, was characterized by delicate craftsmanship, symmetrical geometric forms, light textures, and the frequent use of precious metals combined with natural materials like mother of pearl, enamel, and diamonds.

Edwardian formal accessories were commonly crafted from 9ct, 15ct, or 18ct gold, platinum, and silver, often featuring iridescent mother of pearl inlays, guilloche enamel, or gemstones.

Authentic British Edwardian items bear official assay office hallmarks, including the date letter, fineness mark (such as 375 for 9ct gold), town mark, and makers stamp, along with era-specific construction techniques like hand-twisted wire detail.

Antique jewellery items can be displayed inside velvet-lined dress valet trays, glass-topped shadow boxes, or antique dressing table jars when not being worn as formal accessories.

Wipe gently with a soft microfibre cloth after wear; avoid harsh chemical cleaners, ultrasonic baths, or submersion in water, as moisture can damage organic mother of pearl inserts and enamel work.
