Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This George III style wall sconce is a three-branch lighting fixture crafted in the neoclassical manner of Robert Adam, dating from around 1800. The piece displays a half-fluted urn form in a gold colour, fashioned from wood and gesso with a gilt finish. It includes three candle arms fitted with lighted candles, an anthemion finial at the top, and draped foliate swags suspended below the central bowl. The elaborate cresting at the crown mimics Prince of Wales feathers, while delicate scrolling arms support the outer candle holders. Measuring 72 cm high and 58 cm wide overall, the fixture makes a striking wall-mounted accent. In a contemporary home, this gilded sconce functions well as a decorative lighting piece mounted in a dining room above a sideboard or console table, or positioned in an entrance hallway. The reflective gold surface and intricate carved details catch ambient light, adding architectural interest and traditional elegance to interior spaces without requiring floor space.

FAQs

George III Neoclassical lighting design draws structural inspiration from ancient Roman and Greek decorative arts, featuring symmetrical silhouettes, fluted urns, husks, and foliate swags.

These pieces were typically carved from softwoods like pine or lime, coated with multiple layers of gesso, carved in detail, and finished using water gilding with gold leaf.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved tool marks, uneven wear to the gold leaf revealing reddish bole or white gesso beneath, and historical hand-forged iron mounting hardware.

Position the sconce on a focal wall, flanking an architectural mirror, artwork, or placed above a sideboard to provide vertical proportion and warm reflected light.

Dust gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush or feather duster; water and liquid solvents must be avoided as moisture dissolves gesso and damages gilding.
