A stunning large mid-19th century Meissen porcelain ornithological themed circular dessert dish / shallow bowl, with an underglaze blue scrolling vine border running around the rim. The centre is beautifully painted with an oak tree in a grassy landscape with three various birds perched amongst the branches, one possibly a goldfinch. Charming bugs, butterflies and an ant and ladybird are scattered about the outside of the main scene. Impressed numerals 2 and 12 to the base and crossed swords mark, c.1860.
It measures 24.2cm (9 1/2'') wide and 5cm (2'') high.
In superb condition with no damage, repair or restoration and no discernible handling wear.
