Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the George III period, silver soap boxes or sponge boxes were luxury accessories crafted for aristocratic dressing tables. They held scented soaps or sea sponges, reflecting the heightened emphasis on personal grooming and refined metalwork in 18th- and early 19th-century Britain.

These items were predominantly wrought from high-purity sterling silver (925 fineness). Silversmiths employed techniques such as hand-raising from silver sheet, cast finials, reeding, and intricate hand-chasing or engraving for surface decoration.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmarking standards, including the monarchs head duty mark, the leopards head or anchor town mark, the date letter, and the makers mark (such as Paul Storrs registered initials). The weight of the piece and fine joinery are additional indicators of period authenticity.

An antique silver box functions well as a decorative accent on a bathroom vanity, dressing table, or bedside tray. Grouping it alongside glass perfume bottles or framed artwork creates a curated surface arrangement.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using a gentle, non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft cotton cloth. Avoid harsh chemical dips or abrasive scrubbers, and store items in anti-tarnish cloth sleeves when not on display.
