Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bar brooches became prominent during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras as lightweight, practical fasteners for high collars and lapels. Paste glass, developed in the eighteenth century, refers to hand-cut, leaded glass engineered to simulate the refractive index and colour of precious gemstones like sapphires and aquamarines.

These pieces were typically crafted using 9ct or 15ct yellow gold, rose gold, or silver-topped gold. The focal points featured cut paste, semi-precious gemstones, or cultured pearls, secured with claw settings and complemented by a steel or gold pin mechanism with an attached safety chain.

Authentic items often feature British hallmarks or fineness stamps such as 9ct or 375 on the pin or bar. Construction details such as simple c-clasps, extended tube hinges, hand-drawn wire safety pins, and hand-cut stone facets indicate period manufacture.

A minimalist bar brooch can be pinned to the lapel of a tailored blazer, used to secure a silk neck scarf, or fastened to the collar of a button-down shirt. Grouping multiple bar pins along a jacket pocket adds a curated accent to modern tailoring.

Clean gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid submerging paste jewellery in water or applying chemical cleaners, as moisture can degrade foil backings or loosen settings; store flat in a lined jewellery box away from direct sunlight.
