Robert Harris Jewellers
Robert Harris started his career in the jewellery industry in 1947 at the age of 15 as an apprentice jewellery maker for Garrards. His skills were quickly acknowledged and he was recognised as a natural craftsman. Garrards were responsible for the upkeep of some of the crown jewels and in 1952 he was involved in preparing them for the Coronation. They had to be taken from one workshop to another and it was “Bob’s” responsibility to carry one of the items, alone across Soho in a brown paper bag! Later working at Kutchinksy he excelled in his work, creating many beautiful pieces and undertook some very distinguished commissions, including setting a platinum brooch with diamonds for Princess Margaret. He then made a copy in silver and marquisate for his wife Shirley, which she still has today.
