Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bar brooches became prominent during the mid-to-late Victorian period as clothing styles favoured lighter fabrics and higher necklines. Designers crafted long, slender horizontal pins, often embellished with pearls, gemstones, or intricate granulation influenced by Archaeological Revival motifs.

Antique bar brooches were predominantly crafted from high-carat yellow gold, such as 15ct or 18ct gold, or sterling silver. Decorative elements frequently included natural seed pearls, diamonds, coloured gemstones, and fine wirework or beadwork detailing.

Authentic period brooches typically feature historical hallmarks or makers marks indicating gold purity. Construction details, such as hand-applied granulation, extended pin stems, tube hinges, or c-clasps, further assist in identifying genuine antique pieces.

In modern styling, a gold bar brooch can be worn on a tailored jacket lapel, fastened across a silk scarf, or placed on the collar of a crisp shirt. They also serve as decorative accents on knitwear, evening wraps, or velvet ribbons.

To preserve gold and organic pearls, store the brooch separately in a soft cloth pouch away from direct sunlight. Clean gentle gold detailing with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals, liquid cleaners, or ultrasonic devices that damage natural pearls.
