Qianlong Famille Rose Porcelain Charger or Plate Chinese Export 1750s

18th century
Description

Qianlong Famille Rose Porcelain Charger or Plate Chinese Export 1750s. The plate is in overall very good condition and has been purchased privately from an estate in County Devon, South West England. The decoration is still very fresh and the raised enamel type decoration still in situ. There are some areas of rubbing as can be seen in the photos, but overall decoration is excellent. To the rim there are some small nibbles, as can be seen agin in the images.

This is a very rare export pattern, the only identical plate I could identify having been sold made some £1200.00 at an auction in Scandinavia.

I highly recommend this plate.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Famille rose refers to a group of Chinese porcelain characterised by overglaze enamel decoration in opaque rose-pink shades, developed during the Qing dynasty in the early 18th century. Produced extensively in Jingdezhen, these pieces were crafted specifically for European export markets.

These items were potted from fine hard-paste kaolin porcelain clay and fired at high temperatures before receiving overglaze vitreous enamel decoration. The opaque pink colour was achieved using colloidal gold, painted by hand before a second lower-temperature kiln firing.

Period pieces display slight hand-potted irregularities, pinholes or orange-peel textures in the glaze, and natural unglazed foot-rim wear. Enamels show subtle raised relief, controlled hand-painted brushwork, and characteristic oxidation patterns consistent with 18th-century production.

A charger plate can be set on a clear acrylic or metal stand atop a console table, mounted on an accent wall in a symmetry grid, or displayed within a glass-fronted cabinet alongside contemporary art objects.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. If cleaning is required, use lukewarm water with a mild pH-neutral soap, avoiding abrasive pads, chemical solvents, or ultrasonic baths that could strip the delicate overglaze enamels.
