An absolutely stunning small oak and elm chest made in c. 1700 and with original timbers throughout..The main carcase is oak, the drawer fronts are elm and all has developed a really beautiful and rich colour and fantastic natural patina..The drop handles are 18th century, correct for period and sit in the correct original holes there are some small other marks here and there on the drawer fronts which indicate other handles have been added and then removed at some point many moons ago..The drawer linings are oak original with substantial dovetails to front and nailed up backs with extended original bottom boards and the drawers have rebated runners at the sides - consistent and correct construction for a late 17th century chest – and run smoothly..The stile feet are original and continuous with the main carcase frame.
