Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver and cut glass scent bottle is a small personal vessel produced during the nineteenth century to store perfume, liquid scents, or smelling salts. These items were designed both for practical use on dressing tables and as portable luxury accessories, combining heavy cut lead crystal with silver mountings.

These bottles were crafted using mouth-blown lead crystal, which was then hand-cut on abrasive wheels to create facets, diamonds, or fluting that refracted light. The metal caps were often produced from sterling silver or silver plate, shaped using pressing or repousse techniques, and fitted with internal ground-glass stoppers.

Authentic pieces generally display British silver hallmarks or makers marks stamped around the collar or inside the cap. Evidence of hand-cutting on the glass body, natural surface wear on the base, and original fitted ground-glass stoppers under the silver cap also indicate period authenticity.

Antique scent bottles are commonly displayed on mirrored vanity trays, bedside tables, or inside glass-fronted cabinets alongside other period dressing table accessories. Placing them where natural light strikes the cut glass highlights the faceted geometry and reflective silver work.

Clean the glass body using a soft, damp microfibre cloth and mild soapy water, avoiding submersion if the silver collar is glued to the neck. Silver tops should be buffed gently with a dedicated silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish without allowing liquid polish to enter the glass chamber.
