FAQs

English Regency porcelain, produced roughly between 1811 and 1830, is noted for its classical revival influences, elaborate gilding, and intricate hand-painted botanical or scroll motifs. Makers during this era refined bone china techniques to create durable yet light tableware for formal dining.

These items were typically crafted from fine bone china or soft-paste porcelain, decorated with hand-applied enamel pigments and burnished gold leaf gilding. Clear glazes were high-fired to achieve a smooth surface that protected the underlying painted designs.

Authentic pieces often feature subtle manufacturing variations such as slight firing specks, hand-painted pattern numbers on the underside, and fine gilding showing natural rubbing patterns consistent with age rather than uniform modern electroplating.

A set of antique plates can be styled as a wall installation using secure wire hangers, arranged symmetrically within a glazed dresser, or displayed on a sideboard top to add colour and texture to a room.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water, a mild washing-up liquid, and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges, harsh chemical cleaners, and dishwashers, which cause irreversible erosion to delicate overglaze enamels and gold leaf edges.
