Victorian Tortoiseshell And Sterling Silver Mounted String Or Thread Holder

A most unusual and rare Victorian tortoiseshell and sterling silver mounted string or thread holder. Globular shape with a pull of lid and a central finial with a hole for the string. The tortoiseshell body and lid are supported by a silver gadroon style frame and stands on a circular pedestal foot. Both silver and tortoiseshell are in very good original condition.
