An Edwardian Satinwood 'carlton House' Desk

Constructed from grained satinwood with a glorious lustre heightened throughout with fine stringing and crossbanding, the writing desk standing on four slender tapering legs with spade feet and a curved back; the frieze housing three drawers with curved Georgian style brass handles, the superstructure having a central bank of three graduated drawers, flanked by pigeon holes and cupboards with curved doors, leading to the pair of drawers on each corner flanking the central blue baize writing surface.

First documented in a 1790 royal invoice from cabinetmaker John Kerr, this unique adaptation of the French bureau ą gradin was originally supplied directly to the Prince of Wales.
