Originating from the Khorasan area in North East Persia around 1880, this fine antique Dorush rug measures 267 cm high, 158 cm wide, and 0.5 cm deep. Hand-knotted from wool and cotton, the piece displays a rectangular profile finished with a mellow, muted look stemming from slight fading to the front. The detailed visual elements visible across the surface include a dense, all-over repeating boteh or paisley pattern on an ivory ground, combined with terracotta red tones and multi-tiered decorative borders framing the central field. The construction exhibits a full pile all over, clean surfaces, slightly faded coloration, and newly secured ends and sides. In a modern home, this practical area rug suits placement across the floor of a hallway, bedroom, study, or living space to add traditional Persian style and texture to an English Country House interior. The durable wool and cotton construction provides reliable floor covering while maintaining a refined decorative character that complements classic and traditional domestic settings.

FAQs

Originating from the Dorush region in North-East Persia, these carpets are characterised by their dense weaving technique, wool quality, and repeating pattern compositions such as the boteh motif.

These carpets are constructed with a hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton warp and weft structure, utilizing natural vegetable and mineral dyes for colouring.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-knotted construction visible on the reverse side, slight variations in knot symmetry, and subtle tonal shifts in dye known as abrash.

Position the rug as a foundational textile in a living or dining room to anchor clean-lined contemporary furniture with repeating geometric detail and warm tones.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting, rotate the carpet periodically to equalize foot traffic, and clean spills immediately with a clean dry cloth.
