A Sofreh is a traditional flatwoven textile crafted by nomadic tribes, historically used as a dining cloth or spread for food preparation. Afshar weavers from southeast Persia are known for their geometric lattice patterns and saturated dye palettes.

These textiles are handwoven using locally sourced hand-spun sheep wool for both warp and weft, coloured with natural plant and mineral dyes. The flatweave technique produces a lightweight, pileless structure with dense geometric motifs.

Authentic pieces display natural colour abrash, which refers to subtle tonal variations in the dye due to small-batch yarn dyeing. They also feature hand-bound selvedges, irregular geometric symmetry typical of tribal looms, and soft wear consistent with natural age.

A flatwoven rug can be placed on hardwood flooring with a non-slip underlay to add texture and geometric pattern to a living space. It can also be displayed as a wall hanging or layered over larger neutral carpets to complement contemporary or bohemian decor schemes.
