Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this Antique Saryk Turkmen Torba to the 1880s.

Circa 1880.
These torba were used to decorate the side of a camel during a Turkmen wedding procession, these were prized possessions and formed part of the wedding dowry. The were kept as heirlooms and displayed inside the yurt. This example is of fine weave and has survived in excellent condition. The torba has depressed warps and a firm handle.

The torba is in excellent original condition with very slight wear and excellent full pile. The original indigo blue tassels are still attached, these are typical of Saryk weavings.
An old collectors label attached to the reverse calls this 'a late Salor weaving'. An interesting item of scarce design worthy of further study.
