Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this Burr Walnut Davenport Desk to the 1860s.

The sloping fall-front is inset with its original tooled leather writing surface, framed by crossbanding and delicate line inlay. Above sits a raised three-quarter gallery, adding both refinement and functionality. The burr walnut veneers throughout are of particularly fine figure, displaying warm tones and striking natural patterning.

Opening the fall reveals a fitted satinwood interior, arranged with small drawers and compartments, offering useful storage for writing implements and correspondence. The contrast between the richly figured walnut exterior and the pale satinwood interior is both elegant and visually striking.

To one side, a cupboard door opens to reveal four graduated drawers, each fitted with turned wooden knobs, providing additional storage. The desk is raised on shaped supports with carved scroll brackets, terminating in turned feet, giving the piece a strong yet graceful presence.

Presented in very good condition, with a lovely aged patina and minor wear consistent with age, this Davenport desk would make a wonderful addition to both traditional and contemporary interiors. A classic and highly decorative Victorian piece, ideal for use as a writing desk or statement furniture.
