Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III mahogany bureau typically features a sloping fall-front lid opening to reveal a fitted writing interior, positioned above a series of graduated drawers. Popular in late 18th-century Britain, these functional pieces combined compact storage with a dedicated workspace.

Georgian bureaux were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or pine carcasses veneered with highly figured flame mahogany. Drawer construction utilised hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic George III bureaux display hand-sawn dovetails, hand-carved drawer runners, original brass locks, and subtle timber shrinkage typical of natural ageing. The underside and back panels should show original hand-planed timber.

Integrate a mahogany bureau into a contemporary interior by pairing it with neutral wall tones, abstract artwork overhead, and sleek modern lighting. This creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and minimalist modern design.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping.
