England, circa 1830.The bookcase is constructed in two main sections for ease of transport and access. The upper section features a moulded cornice above a pair of open compartments, fitted with eight fully adjustable shelves. The lower section is enclosed by beautifully figured oak panelled doors, opening to reveal a further two adjustable shelves, and is raised on an integral moulded plinth base.The golden solid oak has acquired a rich, warm, honeyed patina, highlighting the figure of the timber and attesting to both the piece’s quality and its careful stewardship over nearly two centuries.
